Make a scanned PDF searchable (OCR)
Turn a scanned PDF into one you can search and copy text from. The pages look exactly the same; the text becomes real.
Drop a scanned PDF, or choose a file
Scanned PDFs, or a photo of a document (JPG, PNG).
Your file never leaves your device
Looks the same, works better
Okaysize reads every scanned page and adds an invisible layer of real text exactly over the printed words. The page looks untouched, but you can now search it, select and copy text, and screen readers can read it aloud.
OCR without uploading
Optical character recognition usually happens on someone's server. Here it runs on your device with Tesseract, the open source engine behind many OCR apps, so contracts and records stay private.
How to make a scanned PDF searchable
- Add your scan. Drag a scanned PDF or a photo of a document (JPG or PNG) onto the box, or click Choose a file.
- Choose the language. Under Document language, pick the language it's written in. Choose up to three if it mixes languages.
- Keep digital pages as they are. Leave Skip pages that already have text on. It's faster and leaves normal pages untouched.
- Click Make searchable. Small scans take about 20 seconds; long documents a few minutes. The language data downloads once, then works offline.
- Download the result. Click Download to save the searchable PDF. The original file is left exactly as it was.
Questions
- Which languages are supported?
- English, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese. Choose up to three for documents that mix languages.
- How accurate is it?
- Very good for clear, straight scans at normal resolution. Blurry photos, handwriting, and unusual fonts are harder.
- Is my document uploaded?
- No. The recognizer downloads once and runs in your browser.
