Remove the background from a photo
Cut out people, pets, and products in one click and get a transparent PNG or a clean solid color. It runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded.
Drop a photo, or choose a file
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or HEIC. Works best on portraits.
Your file never leaves your device
How it works
An AI model that runs in your browser finds the main subject of the photo and makes a mask around it. The mask is applied to your photo at its full size, so the edges stay as sharp as the original. The photo never leaves your device.
Transparent or a solid color
Transparent saves a PNG you can place on any design, slide, or product page. White or a color of your choice saves a JPG, which is what most forms and profile photo uploads expect.
Best results
Portraits and photos where one subject stands out clearly come out cleanest. Fine hair, fur, glass, busy backgrounds, and light parts of a product such as a white label are the hardest and can come out partly see through, so check the result in the before and after preview.
Keep editing in the design editor
Need a new backdrop, text, or a layout? The Okaysize design editor has the same background remover built in, so you can cut out a photo and design with it on one page.

Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The background is removed on your device. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once, about 44 MB, and your photo is never sent anywhere.
Why does the first photo take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model. After that your browser keeps it, so the next photos start right away.
What format do I get?
A PNG with a transparent background, or a JPG when you pick White or a color. Both keep the full size of your photo.
Is there a watermark?
No. The result has no watermark and no Okaysize logo.
Can I put a white background on an ID photo?
Yes. Pick White. Check the form's own photo rules first: some countries don't allow edited passport photos.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, in a recent Chrome, Safari, or Edge. Large photos need a lot of memory, so on an older phone a smaller photo works best.
Can it remove a watermark or text?
No. It removes the background behind the main subject, nothing else.
