Discord says your file is too large
Discord has changed its free upload limit several times. Here are the current limits, why your file failed, and how to make it fit.
Updated October 2, 2026
Current Discord upload limits
| Plan | Max file size |
|---|---|
| Free | 20 MB |
| Nitro Basic | 50 MB |
| Nitro | 1 GB |
| Server boosted to level 2 | 50 MB, inside that server |
| Server boosted to level 3 | 100 MB, inside that server |
The free limit has moved a lot: 8 MB for years, 25 MB in 2023, 10 MB from late 2024, and 20 MB since August 2026. Many guides online still quote an old number, which is why a file that should fit sometimes doesn't.
Videos: compress to your plan's limit
Most "file too large" errors are videos. A minute of phone video is often 100 MB or more. Compressing to just under 20 MB works well for clips up to a few minutes; for longer videos, lowering the resolution to 720p keeps them looking better than cramming in full resolution.
Pick your plan and compress in one click. Nothing is uploaded.

A very long video can't fit in 20 MB and still be watchable. Okaysize tells you before it starts if that's the case, with the length that would fit. Trim the video, use a boosted server, or share a link to the file instead.
