How to add page numbers to a PDF

Add clean page numbers to any PDF, with the style and placement you want.

  • About 1 minute
  • Free, nothing uploaded
  • 6 steps

Steps

  1. Add your PDF

Drag your PDF onto the box, or click Choose a file. It opens right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. Choose the position

Under Position, pick bottom or top, and left, center, or right.

  3. Choose the style

    Under Style, pick 1, 2, 3; Page 1, Page 2; or 1 of 10, 2 of 10.

  4. Set the first number and size

Change First number if numbering shouldn't start at 1, and use the Size slider to make numbers bigger or smaller.

  5. Skip a cover page if you have one

Turn on Skip the first page and numbering starts on page 2.

  6. Click Add page numbers

Then click Download to save the numbered PDF.

Tips

  • Bottom center at 11 pt is a safe choice for most documents.
  • Merging several files? Merge first, then number, so the numbering runs straight through.

Questions

Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?
Yes. Type it in First number, for example 5 if this PDF continues another document.
Will the numbers cover my content?
They sit in the page margin. If a page has content right at the edge, try the top position instead.
