How to compress a video

Shrink a phone video or screen recording so it sends, without uploading it or adding a watermark.

  • About 3 minutes
  • Free, nothing uploaded
  • 4 steps

Steps

  1. Add your video

Drag an MP4, MOV, WebM, or MKV onto the box, or click Choose a file. It isn't uploaded.

  2. Use the automatic settings, or set a size

Good settings are already chosen. To hit an exact limit, open Advanced and type a Target size in MB, like 25.

  3. Click Compress video

You'll see progress and a time estimate. Keep the tab open while it works.

  4. Compare and download

Check the new size, then click Download.

The options, explained

Quality
High, Balanced, or Smallest. Balanced suits most videos.
Maximum resolution
Auto lowers resolution only when a size target needs it, or pick 1080p, 720p, or 480p.
Start and End
Cut the video to just the part you need, which makes it much smaller.
Remove audio
Drops the sound for an even smaller file.

Tips

  • Shorter is the biggest saving. Trim before you compress.
  • Location data is removed by default. Turn on Keep location and device data only if you want it.
  • Sending to a specific app? Use its preset, like WhatsApp or Discord, for the right limit.

Questions

How long does it take?
Usually faster than the video's length on a modern computer. A time estimate appears before you start.
