How to make a GIF from a video

Make a reaction GIF, a product demo, or a looping clip from any video.

  • About 2 minutes
  • Free, nothing uploaded
  • 4 steps

Steps

  1. Add your video

Drag a short clip onto the box, or click Choose a file. Short clips work best.

  2. Choose the part to use

Open Advanced and type Start (seconds) and End (seconds). Without them, the first 15 seconds are used.

  3. Set size and smoothness

Width defaults to 480 px and Frame rate to 15 fps. Lower either one for a smaller GIF.

  4. Click Make GIF

Then click Download to save the GIF.

Tips

  • Keep GIFs under about 10 seconds. They grow fast.
  • Many apps play short MP4s like GIFs at a fraction of the size. Use a GIF when a site only accepts GIF.

Questions

Why is my GIF so big?
GIF is an old format with no modern compression. Shorten the clip, lower the width, or reduce the frame rate.
Will the GIF loop?
Yes, Loop forever is on by default.
