Real redaction, not a black box on top
A black rectangle drawn in most editors can be removed or the text underneath copied out. Okaysize flattens every page you redact into an image with the boxes burned in, so what's hidden is gone from the file.
What changes
Redacted pages can't have their text selected or searched anymore, because they're now images. Pages you don't redact stay exactly as they were. Document details like the title and author are cleared too.
How to redact a PDF
- Add your PDF. Drag your PDF onto the box, or click Choose a file. It opens right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- Draw boxes over private details. Draw boxes is on when the page opens. Drag across anything private to cover it in black.
- Redact whole pages if needed. Click Redact whole page to black out the page you're on. Use the thumbnails to move between pages.
- Fix mistakes. Select a box and press Delete to remove it, or drag its corner to resize it.
- Click Redact and save. Redacted pages are rebuilt as images, so the hidden text is removed for real. Document details are cleared too.
- Download the result. Click Download to save the redacted PDF. The original file is left exactly as it was.
Questions
- Can the redacted text be recovered?
- No. The page is rebuilt from an image; the original text and drawings on it aren't in the new file.
- Should I redact on my own device?
- Yes, that's the point: sending a document full of private details to an online service to hide them defeats the purpose. Okaysize never uploads it.
- Can I redact a whole page?
- Yes. Use Redact whole page.
